WITH YOU (2007) MY REVIEW

With You (2007)
Written By Josh Groban, Walter Afanasieff, and Thomas Salter
Performed By Josh Groban
Album: Hallmark “With You, Josh Groban”

“With You” is a soft rock-pop song of sophisticated beauty. It tells a story of immeasurable love forfeited because of an extremely foolish action, a deep and lasting betrayal, shattering the heart of your true soul mate; the person who was meant for you for reason that cannot be explained. Leaving this person because of irrational fears and doubts you have created in your mind, not listening to your heart, or listening to your soul. Realizing that this person believed in this incredible love you had, knowing it was exceptional; a once in a lifetime treasure not to be lost and awakening to the fact now that you did not have this faith or courage and the realization within you. Somehow your fear and apprehensions had hidden this truth from your soul. You just did not listen, destroying its true nature, and hurting the person that meant the most. That you now realize you had everything you ever wanted with this person, dreamed of, wished for, right there in your hands; and you let it slip away from you like sand. With one extremely stupid choice, you had destroyed this passion, a love of a lifetime, and had hurt yourself and the one that was meant for you all with a silly brief declaration. Praying that it is not too late to change this decision, wishing you could turn back the hands of time. Change the outcome, make it yesterday, and return to this love that was so carelessly thrown away.“If I could follow my heart again it would be yours “ (With You 2007). Not knowing if this person, (this soul mate), will ever take you back, having been so hurt and abandoned, and if they do will the relationship last because of the scar of uncertainty that you have cut into it. Will this person ever overcome the fears and doubts that you have placed in their heart and soul? Will they ever be again truly “With You”?

“With You” has a haunting beauty and sadness that pulls you in to its calling of regret and remorse. This tragic, but yet hopeful love story expresses the hurt of a chosen pain that you can feel through the song. The lyrics have a modern intellectual style and Shakespearean quality to them, reminding us of the many great and tragic love stories from ancient times to the present, real and fictional; stories of deep sadness and heartbreak, where one stupid mistake left two people with broken hearts. Wondering if the choices you made were the choices that you could live with in the end. The music of “With You” opens with a dramatic piano introduction connecting you to the music, as the music progresses it floats through your soul, with its dramatic ups and downs, allowing you to feel its emotional pull. Its sadness is as deep as the lyrics that accompanying it. They truly match, melting into a cohesive rhythm of sadness and pain, passion and hopefulness towards this thrown away love, which cannot be forgotten, but has been likely destroyed with a careless whim, never to be recaptured again.
